When the iPod video came out it was to be known as the last generation in the line of iPods. This was a surprise to the market because of the enormous amount of sales since its appearance. This new generation is able to play video, cool! So if that sounds like fun, now you just have to learn how get the video onto the device right?
First the technical info that you need to know, the iPod can play H.264 / MPEG-4 encoded videos with AAC audio tracks. Because of this, the resolution is limited a bit. To break it down here are the specs for the iPod video(for the H.264 video)- up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 and 30 frames per second.
For the MPEG-4 video, the limits go up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480 which is the same 30 frames per second. The AAC audio bit rate is around 160 Kbps. Once you establish these limits, the next step is to designate the source of the video, which can be from a DVD, a video of the computer or a digital camera recording.
So if you want to get a video from a DVD onto your ipod, then the first thing you need to do is insert the DVD into your computer. Once you do that, you should open the DVD, use 'file' and 'open' DVD from the menu. Look at the options in the menu, set up everything as you prefer, the right language, do you want subtitles and chapters? These are all things you can customize. Start playing the movie, use the DVD menu to navigate. Once the movie starts, you need to press the record button and then select the folder where you want to keep the recorded files. To end the recording, just click the stop button and if all goes well, you will see a screen confirmation that you have successfully converted your file.
What if you want to convert a video from your pc to play on your iPod, well the first thing that you need to do is go to the menu file again and click open 'video' file. once you do that, your video will to begin to play, this is the when you can adjust the video to your liking. You can also set the timing of when to start the recording, using the bottom playback controls. When you know when you want to start the recording, click the button 'record' and then just click stop to stop it at any time. When your done recording, just like before with the DVD recording, there will be a message on the screen saying that everything was successfull.
By following these simple instructions, your movies and videos will be magically placed into your iPod and you can watch them whenever you want.
